Girls JV Tennis competed very well today against a well-matched Westtown Squad. All matches were competitive with no blowouts. Overall match success was highlighted by GS winning one set tiebreak and two match tie breaks.
Emily White at first singles, battled a well seasoned first singles player during an enduring match, but perseverance was rewarded in a 10-8 match tie break win. This was Emily’s second match tie break win in the last week!
Jillian Nord at second singles stayed committed to good singles court management, consistency, and shot selection to prevail in straight sets against a worthy opponent. Jillian’s commitment to personal improvement has been evident all season. Well Done, Jillian!
Carly Port at third singles again displayed her signature calm court demeanor with an unwavering focus to the task at hand to prevail in straight sets. Carly seems to have the makings of that singles “it” factor of surface calm with high activity under the surface. Well Done, Carly!
Alexa Nygren and Ally Fu have really grown into a dynamic doubles team, achieving really nice compatibility and displaying seasoned doubles skills. Playing against a comparable Westtown duo, the match featured knowledgeable doubles play with two set tie breaks and a winning match tie break by GS. This type of match leaves a smile for young women’s tennis! Well Done to all four players!!
Charlotte DeLorenzo and Izzy Kim teamed at second doubles, also displaying complementary play and with imposing ground strokes and volleys proved just a bit too much for their opponent and they stayed ahead throughout to a straight-sets win. Well Done girls!
Our four exhibition players, Noor Riar and Lilly Smith;, Gabby Lawson and Amanda Roman each played one set against the Westtown doubles team and each came away with 6-4 set victories. Each of these players has grown over the season in overall shot development, direction, and depth control. So proud of you all for your growth. I hope you will continue with your personal tennis development.
Match had quite an audience of students, parents and overall peripheral activity on all sides of the courts. Very impressive that these young players showed sustained focus and commitment to their task at hand, in an individual sport that requires sustained personal mental discipline.
VERY Well Done Ladies!!
Thanks again to Vernun Mani and Avril Roberts for coaching insights to players and overall supportive efforts!
